Ahh, the Slomps. I've known this family since high school, photographed one of their weddings, and know that they're some of the best! We spent the afternoon at the farm, and it was full of laughs, a few beer and a good time. I'd say that's about as good as it gets! A little look at our time together:
There's always the saying of 'it all started with two people...' and then shows the whole family, and shows how much the group has changed and grown. The thought of that with this family is crazy when you think about it, though. This group is large, and still growing, and they're amazing. I LOVED shooting these guys. They were fun, not quiet at all, and made my job so easy. Big groups can be scary and a bit overwhelming to photograph, but I love the challenge, and I love the relationships between everyone. Especially with families like this.

Extended Family Sessions. They can be chaos with so many kids, a nightmare getting everyone together at the same time in the same place, expensive and there's sometimes a lot of complaining before hand. BUT it can be fun chaos as the kids play together and fool around with the rest of the family, you can hang out with everyone and have dinner afterwards, worth every penny, and once everyone realizes how relaxed and easy it is, the complaining ends pretty quickly!
I come from a large family - pictured above. My mom always made sure we got family pictures done on a regular basis when we were growing up, and now that we're all grown with our own families, those pictures continue. And while it's a job getting that many people together - especially kids! - it's worth it every time.
People change. Kids grow. And to be honest, we don't know how long people are going to be around. Having pictures with the people you love is not only nice to have, but I really think it's so important! Doing extended sessions makes me excited. I know these families are going to have beautiful, sentimental pictures to hang on their walls. Pictures that show who they are as a group, and pictures that show the relationships between them. Grandparents with their grandchildren - always a favourite!!! Grown siblings together, parents with their own kids, moms with their daughters, fathers with their sons. Sometimes even three generation pictures, which I LOVE!
Family is everything. And for me, having pictures with the people you love is a pretty big deal. Let me capture you all together, and we'll have a great time! It goes MUCH smoother than you think, each family gets their own family pictures (BONUS!) and you'll never regret having them. Make sure to book well in advance so that you can find a date that works for everyone, and you have time to prepare. Give me a shout and let's get you booked!
Just a few years ago when I was in high school...hahahahahahaha. Fine. Like, another lifetime ago when I went to high school, I was in the same grade as Esther. One of the super nice, quieter girls that I never got to know because I was socially awkward. Anyway, Facebook makes me feel popular and makes it look like I have a ton of friends, and Esther is one of them! She messaged me about getting family pictures done with her parents, sister and husband, and I was nervous/excited to hang out with them! Good news. I'm just as socially awkward, but deal with it a bit better now, and it went amazingly! Helps that they're all super sweet. We spent some time at the acreage, and then went down to the river for some variety. Oh Autumn. You have my heart. For about 2 weeks a year.

This family + this evening = kind of awesome. These guys were fun and sarcastic and exactly my style, making this session so fun to shoot!
