A year in review. That seems like it should be easy - pick a shot from each session and wedding, post and be done. But for some reason, it's a lot more this year. I mean, for me personally, 2016 wasn't one to be real excited about. It was a year of loss and sickness and a whole lot of hurt. Life changed a lot this year, and I feel like a much different person than I was in January. But I grew, and I learned again just how important relationships are, and how much I need my family. I was reminded of what's really important in life, and how the small things are just that - small.
Business wise, things were completely different. I started off the year extremely nervous, having booked a lot less weddings than usual. With the loss of my brother in law this summer, that ended up being exactly what I needed, and I had the perfect amount of work. Enough to keep my busy, pay the bills and keep me excited to shoot, but also enough that I could still spend lots of time with my family and not feel like I was drowning in sessions.
Looking through all of these sessions, this year was perfect for my photography. I did two incredible workshops, shot a wedding in Mexico, a couple weddings in BC, I had clients who have become friends and were amazing to work for, I grew in my work, completely changed my editing style, became more confident in the pictures I make, and genuinely loved my job all year.
In the year ahead, I'm excited to meet new people, work on my reception work, understand the technical side of things a bit more, and continue to grow as an artist. I'm so thankful for all of you who have supported and encouraged me, and I can't wait to see what 2017 holds. Thank you for giving me a job I love!
At the very end of December I met up with Callie and Jordan for a quick engagement session before they headed back to Ontario. Gosh, it was cold. And they were so good about it! They did an outfit change, walked through piles of snow in shoes that were definitely not winter boots, and went along with whatever I said. That mixed in with excellent style makes for the perfect shoot! So excited for their July wedding!!!
We started off with some shots with their little guy, Brooks. Possibly the cutest child ever. You'll see.
And then Brooks got to go inside and warm up and eat while I kept the other two out in the cold. :)
I don't usually include a lot of ring shots anymore, but guys. Look at this ring! The stone is YELLOW! Ahhhhmazing.
Callie and Jordan, it was so great to meet you and hang out for a bit. I'll see you in 6 months!!!

When I first started my photography business, I had set my standards verrrry low. The goal was to get 4 to 5 sessions in a year, and make a bit of extra cash to spend on whatever I wanted. I swore I would never do a wedding, and went into sessions feeling so nervous that I was physically sick. Now, this year, in my fourth year of business, I've done 15 weddings, which have become a favorite, 6 engagements, a maternity, 7 newborns, 15 families and 2 births! I go into sessions excited, and leave feeling like I've made new friends. I'm paying for the kids' schooling, helping with bills and loving my job!
I am so thankful for the opportunites I've had this year, and for the amazing clients I've worked with. I've worked with a lot of friends, and with a lot of strangers who have become friends. The weddings and families that I book come from your referrals and loving words, and I appreciate it more than I could ever express! I've loved working with each and every one of you, and cannot wait for another amazing year with even more incredible people!
Thanks so much for the love an encouragement - Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
